Maintenance Technician – General Maintenance & Plumbing

SUMMARY

The primary focus of the Maintenance Technician – General Maintenance & Plumbing is to perform a variety of general maintenance functions and plumbing duties throughout in support the Big Spring School District daily operations as needed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Possess a high school diploma;
  2. Possess basic skills and knowledge necessary to analyze, troubleshoot, repair, and use necessary tools to diagnose maintain the District’s plumbing systems and general maintenance needs;
  3. Possess basic skills and knowledge to read blueprints, manuals and drawings;
  4. Be proficient and possess training and/or knowledge of computer systems used to complete work orders, basic word processing, spreadsheets and able to communicate using district email;
  5. Possess the skills and capability of completing assigned work from oral and/or written instructions;
  6. Preferably have at least one year experience in institutional maintenance or a related field of work;
  7. Preferably have supplemental training in technical skill areas;
  8. Possess a valid Pennsylvania State Driver’s License and clean driving record; and
  9. Be in good physical condition and capable of heavy lifting and capable of strength moves that are essential part of the job.

 SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Maintain equipment, buildings, structures and grounds
  2. Notify proper individuals in the event of emergencies

 

SPECIFIC MAINTENANCE RESPONSBILITIES

With minimal supervision perform a variety of maintenance duties including repairs and preventative maintenance to support efficient, safe, and healthy district-wide operations.   The following description covers the most significant duties performed on a daily basis, but does not exclude other occasional work assignments not mentioned.

  1. Maintain, perform preventative maintenance and repairs to machinery, mechanical equipment and at all District buildings / facilities. Duties may also include general electrical, metal work and light carpentry labor inside and outside all District locations;
  2. Maintain, perform preventative maintenance, repair and monitor the District plumbing systems to include the installation of new faucets, sinks, flush valves, and valves;
  3. Assist as needed to maintain grounds and athletic fields at all District properties;
  4. Perform preventative maintenance to the District owned automotive equipment as assigned;
  5. Act as backup courier to cover the duties of the Logistics Specialist;
  6. Summer duties may include furniture relocation, assembly and custodial support when assigned;
  7. Respond to automated work orders, subsequently document labor, and material costs associated with each job;
  8. Assist in general building operations as needed; and
  9. Operate District vehicles independently, via a valid driver’s license, to complete job responsibilities and to fulfill district-wide maintenance needs.

 

MISCELLANEOUS RESPONSBILITIES

  1. Perform all other duties as directed by Director of Maintenance Services and/or District Administration;
  2. Engage in professional learning as necessary to effectively perform all responsibilities of the position;
  3. Work collaboratively with other members of the Maintenance and Custodial Department to meet the needs of the District to maintain and support a healthy, safe and efficient environment for all students, staff and community; and
  4. Expected to report to work beyond regular working hours to make repairs of an emergency nature, snow removal.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

  1. Occasional lifting up to 75 pounds
  2. Regular bending, stooping, twisting, reaching, grasping, walking, sitting, climbing, riding, and driving
  3. Frequent travel to school district buildings daily
  4. Work may include outdoor all-season weather conditions.

 

SENSORY ABILITIES   

  1. Visual acuity to read correspondence and a computer screen
  2. Auditory acuity to be able to use a telephone and communicate with co-workers, students, parents, and guests
  3. Ability to speak clearly and distinctly

  1. Maintain confidentiality as required by state and federal regulations
  2. Must be able to interact well with various publics and individuals
  3. Must be able to work as a member of a team
  4. Must be cooperative, congenial, and service-oriented

  1. Must be able to handle and prioritize multiple tasks
  2. Must be able to think and to work independently
  3. Must be able to make decisions regarding detail work
  4. Must be able to follow-through to completion assigned tasks with minimal supervision

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  1. All school properties, indoors and outdoors

 

ATTENDANCE

  1. Regular attendance is required. Persistent absence, and/or leave without pay, is grounds for dismissal

 

LICENSE

  1. Valid Driver’s License

 

COMMENTS
